Admission for Higher Secondary Classes, 2019


General Informations

Online applications are invited from eligible students as per rules of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council for admission to Higher Secondary First Year Courses (Science and Arts) mentored by Cotton University faculties for the session 2019-20. Admission is offered in 3 (three) Sections in Day Shift in the Science stream, 1 (one) Section in Morning Shift also in the Science stream and 1 (one) Section in Day Shift in the Arts stream. The schedule of admissions is as given below:

Note: Candidates seeking admission in EC etc. quotas must submit a printed copy of submitted online application along with attested copies of supporting documents to the Office of the Director Students’ Welfare, Ambikagiri Raichoudhury Bhawan, Opp. Food Villa, Near RKB Boys Hostel, Panbazar, Guwahati 781001 by May 24 at the latest, either visiting the office in person or by registered/speed post. Outstation applicants of EC etc. quota may additionally send the pdf copy of her/his online application along with scanned copies of the supporting documents by email to ec.hs@cottonuniversity.ac.in The combined standardized merit list of all applicants shall be displayed on the Cotton University website in the evening of 25 May 2019. Cotton University shall not issue any physical application form or brochure from the office.

  • Two year Higher Secondary (HS) Course in Science and Arts.
  • Admission is given purely on merit and is subject to the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) regulations.
Number of Seats available

  • Science (Day Shift): 375 seats (in 3 Sections)

    This number includes 21 seats of Extra Curricular quota. Quotas of reserved seats for SC, ST, OBC etc. shall be calculated out of the remaining number.
  • Science (Morning Shift): 125 seats

    The morning shift classes will be scheduled from 8.00 am onwards. Theory classes shall be taken by experienced faculties.
  • Arts: 160 seats

    This number includes 21 seats of EC etc. quota. Quotas of reserved seats for SC, ST, OBC etc. shall be calculated out of the remaining number.
Combination of subjects
Combination of subjects will be allotted at the time of admission.
  • Higher Secondary (Science) Day Shift:

    • English is compulsory

    • A student must select one Modern Indian Language (MIL) or Alternative English. In case of MIL, subjects available in the University are Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and Hindi only

    • A student must take three or four elective subjects from the following list:
      1. Physics
      2. Chemistry
      3. Mathematics
      4. Biology/Geography/Statistics/Anthropology/Geology/Computer Science & Application (any one of these)

  • Higher Secondary (Science) Morning Shift:

    • English is compulsory

    • A student must select one Modern Indian Language (MIL) or Alternative English. In case of MIL, subjects available in the University are Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and Hindi only

    • A student must take three or four elective subjects from the following list:
      1. Physics
      2. Chemistry
      3. Mathematics
      4. Biology

  • Higher Secondary (Arts):

    • English is compulsory

    • A student must select one Modern Indian Language (MIL) or Alternative English. In case of MIL, subjects available in the University are Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and Hindi only

    • A student must take three/four elective subjects from the following list::
      1. Economics
      2. Political Science
      3. History/Mathematics
      4. Logic & Philosophy
      5. Education
      6. Geography/Anthropology/Statistics/Sanskrit/Arabic/Persian/Advance Bengali/Advance Hindi/Computer Science & Application (any one of these)

  • Notes:

    • In case of HS Arts, Anthropology is allowed only with Economics, Political Science, History/Mathematics.
    • In case of HS Arts, Computer Science & Application is allowed only with Mathematics and Economics.
    • As per AHSEC regulation, a student offering computer Science & Application as an elective subject in Science/Arts/Commerce stream shall have to offer Mathematics and two other elective subjects, i.e such a student must have four elective subjects.

Admission Procedure
.
  • Application for admission to HS 1st year in Cotton University must be filled up and submitted ONLINE through the University website: www.cottonuniversity.ac.in. The application fee of Rs. 300.00 (Rupees three hundred only) shall have to be paid online through the payment link provided after registration and login. Hard copy online application need not be sent to the University except by candidates applying for EC etc. quota admissions..
  • The following documents must be produced in original at the time of admission:
    • Three copies of passport size photographs of the candidate signed on the backside.
    • Mark sheets of the last qualifying examination (hard copy of downloaded Marksheets in case of CBSE, ICSE etc. shall be accepted only if countersigned by the Head of the institution last attended).
    • Age proof certificate
    • Character certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended.
    • Caste Certificate of the candidate where applicable.
  • Students passing the qualifying examination earlier than the current year will have to submit a Gap Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended or the Officer in Charge of the nearest Police Station testifying to his/her activities during the interim period. Candidates having more than 3 (three) years study gap, i.e. students passing HSLC or equivalent before 2016, shall not be eligible for admission.
  • Candidates have to submit attested copies of all testimonials at the time of admission.
  • Admission of a student to the HS class and to a hostel if allotted will take place on the same day unless otherwise notified. Necessary payment for the purpose will have to be made on the same day and announcement regarding the commencement of regular classes will be made on the date of admission itself.
  • A candidate from CBSE system shall be eligible to be considered for admission to HS 1st year only if she/he passes the Class-10 Final Board examination conducted by CBSE and not the Class-10 examination internally conducted by her/his school.
  • Combined standardized merit list shall be published on 25 May 2019. The conversion formula for CBSE and other Boards (other than SEBA) shall be 1.2 × Total of 5 Subject or 57 × CGPA as the case may be.
Waiver of Admission Fee, Tuition Fees etc. of Govt. of Assam
.
  • The scheme of Waiver of Admission Fee/ Tuition Fees etc. shall be offered only as per the order to be issued by the Higher Education Department, Government of Assam, applicable for the academic year 2019-20.
  • Candidates who may be eligible for the scheme have to upload an Income Certificate from the local Revenue Circle Officer and also a photo of herself/himself with a sapling planted by him, at the time of filling up of the online application for admission. Such a candidate must produce the original non-laminated mark sheet at the time of admission.
General Reservation Rules for Higher Secondary
  • There is a provision for reservation of seats as per Govt. of Assam rules for SC, ST (P), ST (H), OBC/MOBC candidates belonging to the State of Assam. The quotas of reservation are as follows: OBC/MOBC-15%, SC-7%, ST(P)-10% & ST(H)-5%. In this respect caste certificate issued only by a competent authority under Govt. of Assam shall be valid.
  • There is a provision for reservation of seats as per Govt. of Assam rules for SC, ST (P), ST (H), OBC/MOBC candidates belonging to the State of Assam. The quotas of reservation are as follows: OBC/MOBC-15%, SC-7%, ST(P)-10% & ST(H)-5%. In this respect caste certificate issued only by a competent authority under Govt. of Assam shall be valid.
  • A few seats of HS (day shift) are reserved for students having outstanding performance in the field of Sports, Culture, NCC, NSS, Scouts & Guides as well as for students from states other than Assam and from other countries (to be called EC etc. quota).
  • The relaxation of 25% is allowed in cut-off marks for all courses and for all categories for admission in EC etc. quota seats
  • For both HS Science (day shift only) and HS Arts the maximum number of reserved seats under the EC etc. quotas are:
    • Sports: 5
    • Cultural:5
    • NCC: 3
    • NSS: 1
    • Scouts & Guides: 1
    • Other states: 4 (Domicile Certificate to be produced)
    • Other countries: 2 (Passport to be produced)
  • An outstanding sportsperson or cultural activist who had represented the country in international events within a period of at most three years prior to the date of admission will be admitted directly without considering the cut-off mark. However the maximum number of reserved seats in a particular field will not be enhanced for inclusion of such candidates.
  • Sport persons will be selected from those disciplines which are recognised by IOC and BCCI and also such sports which are included in All India University meets. In case of Cultural quota, students will be selected on the basis of proficiency in the fields of Music (Vocal/Instrumental), Dance, Drama, Debating and Quiz, Fine Arts and Sculpting.
  • Candidates in sports and cultural quotas must produce degree/diploma/award certificates from recognised institutions and shall have to appear in selection trials wherever applicable.
  • There is a provision of up to 3% extra reserved seats for ‘Differently Abled’ candidates.
  • A candidate seeking admission in any of the above categories (i) to (vi) above must submit a printed copy of her/his online application, by 24 May 2019 at the latest, to the Office of the Director Students’ Welfare, Ambikagiri Raichoudhury Bhawan, Opp. Food Villa, Near RKB Boys Hostel, Panbazar, Guwahati 781001. Attested copies of the supporting documents with regard to her/ his eligibility for the concerned quota must be enclosed with this copy of the application, which should be submitted in an envelope having the category applied for clearly superscribed. Outstation applicants may send the pdf copy of her/his online application along with scanned copies of the supporting documents as email attachments to ec.hs@cottonuniversity.ac.in with the subject line of the email clearly mentioning the category applied for
  • A student admitted under extra-curricular category must participate in relevant competitions/ events as sought by the University authority.
Hostel Rules and Regulations
.
  • Admission to the University hostels is made for one academic year only, strictly in order of merit, subject to availability of seats. On promotion to the next higher class, the admission to the hostel is to be renewed by filling up the Renewal Form subject to the fulfilment of the following satisfactory record of the boarded which includes – (a) Regularity in paying hostel dues, (b) good conduct and observance of the hostel rule and regulations, and (c) regularity in attending classes.
  • Students residing within the greater Guwahati area are not allowed to stay in the hostels of Cotton University.
  • Service holders are not entitled to claim a hostel seat. A student who fails to appear in any final/test/promotion examination shall forfeit her/his hostel seat.
  • Hostel seats will be allotted to the students by the University authority and transfer from one hostel to another is not allowed.
    Students who withdraw from one hostel will not be allowed to take admission in any other hostel of Cotton University during that year.
  • A student having admission against an allotted hostel seat has to occupy her/his seat as per allotment made by the superintendent concerned. No mutual exchange of rooms is allowed within the hostel.
  • On the day of admission in the hostel, the parent/legal guardian as well as the local guardian must be present to complete necessary formalities.
  • Any change of address or contact number of both the parent/legal guardian and the local guardian must be intimated immediately to the superintendent of the hostel.
  • At the time of renewal of admission in the hostels, parents/local guardians must be present with the candidate to sign the renewal form as well as the prescribed undertaking form.
  • Discipline:
    Ragging is strictly forbidden: Any student found indulging in any form of ragging or harassment to boarders is liable for expulsion from the hostel as well as from the University. In this regard, a signed undertaking of the guardian shall have to be submitted at the time of admission/renewal as per the recent verdict of the Hon’ble Supreme court of India.
  • All boarders must remain in their allotted rooms during the study hours, as fixed by the superintendent or decided by the Hostel Advisory Committee. At present the following timings are being followed:

      For Boys’ Hostel::

    • 1st April to 31st October:: Must enter before 7 pm
    • 1st November to 31st March:: Must enter before 6 pm

      For Girls’ Hostel::

    • 1st April to 31st October:: Must enter before 6 pm
    • 1st November to 31st March:: Must enter before 5 pm
